CIF Celebrates Women’s Achievements and Advocacy in Vancouver

The Canadian Iranian Foundation (CIF) hosted a remarkable event in Vancouver to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, honoring the achievements of women and their invaluable contributions to the community. The gathering brought together influential figures from media, education, mental health, and advocacy, highlighting the ongoing efforts to empower women and advance gender equality.

Nassreen Filsoof, president of CIF, opened the event with a powerful message acknowledging the pivotal role of women in shaping history, culture, and society. She paid tribute to iconic figures such as Marie Curie, Malala Yousafzai, and Parvin E’tesami, as well as the many Iranian women who have tirelessly worked behind the scenes to create lasting change. “Women have been the driving force behind progress for centuries, yet the pursuit of true equality continues,” she stated. Under her leadership, CIF has actively supported women’s initiatives in Vancouver through scholarships, mentorship programs, and cultural events that elevate Iranian women in Canadian society.

Sharareh Soltani, a distinguished journalist and TV presenter, shared insights on the evolution of Persian-language media in Vancouver. She reflected on her dynamic career, from hosting children’s programs to producing bilingual news and cultural content, emphasizing the importance of representation in media.

Poran Poregbal, a mental health professional and women’s rights advocate, offered a deeply personal perspective on her journey—from teaching literacy to girls in a remote Iranian village to establishing mental health services for Persian-speaking women in Vancouver. Through her work, she has provided crucial counseling, advocacy, and awareness programs addressing the unique challenges faced by immigrant women. “Visibility is essential,” she emphasized. “Women need safe spaces to share their experiences and receive the support they deserve.”

Mehran Aazami-Fard, a respected leader in Vancouver’s Iranian community, underscored the significance of education and mentorship in fostering leadership among women. His dedication to community outreach and cultural initiatives has helped bridge generational and cultural divides, ensuring that young women and newcomers have access to vital growth and development opportunities.

Parinaz Zhandy, a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, spoke about the crucial role of representation in professional and social spaces. Through her involvement in various community projects, she has championed increased opportunities for women in leadership roles, encouraging them to take an active part in decision-making processes and break barriers.

The event served as a powerful testament to the collective impact of women and their allies in Vancouver, recognizing their influence across media, education, mental health, and community leadership. CIF reaffirmed its commitment to fostering representation, creating opportunities, and ensuring that future generations of women in Vancouver have the support they need to thrive and succeed.
