he Georgian Bay Traditional Territories Consultation Committee has a business grant available for Metis Owned businesses in Region 7. The grant application, which offers up to $5000 is open until September 3rd at 6 pm.

The Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council will be opening its doors to the public during The City of Barrie’s Open Doors Barrie event on September 14 from 10 am to 4 pm. The location will be open to the public and Region 7 Councilor Greg Garratt along with MNO Vice Chair Sharon Cadeau will be on hand to discuss who the Metis Nation of Ontario represents, harvesting rights and all the other services available to Metis citizens.

The Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council will also be hosting a Culture Day on September 21 called My Little Ogichidaa: A Special Reading and Craft. Children will read Metis Author Willie Poll’s book My Little Ogichidaa and participate in a cultural craft.

The Barrie council will also hold an engagement session on September 22 with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization to learn more about the organization and the potential Deep Geological Repository coming to Region 7.

National Day For Truth and Reconciliation is on September 30. The Barrie South Simcoe Council will be holding a candlelight vigil for citizens to reflect on the impact that colonialism has had on Indigenous Peoples. 

Kooshkopayiw will also be attending Tony Belcourt’s Truth and Reconciliation Through Art Exhibit at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum in Almonte, Ontario on September 30.
