May 2, 2024 – In a focused and productive session held from 1 PM to 3 PM, the Planning Committee convened to discuss and advance the strategic initiatives of the SDP Stakeholders Table. Chaired by facilitator Ismail, the meeting underscored the Committee’s commitment to fostering effective stakeholder engagement and ensuring robust decision-making processes.

The Committee's primary role is to make recommendations to the SDP Stakeholders Table regarding strategic direction and action priorities. This involves ensuring inter-committee alignment, coordinating efforts, and engaging both stakeholders and residents effectively. The committee also supports the Stakeholders Table by preparing workgroups for meetings, addressing urgent requests, and identifying necessary expertise and information for informed decision-making. The goal is to develop facilitation approaches that enhance stakeholder participation in discussions and decision-making.

The meeting began with a brief review and approval of the agenda, the committee moved forward with a detailed discussion on agenda proposals and items for the Planning Committee in 2024. Future facilitators and upcoming SDP events and meetings were also discussed.

One of the central points of the meeting was a debrief of the April 25th Stakeholders’ Table meeting, using the Rose-Thorn-Bud framework to gather comprehensive feedback. This discussion aimed to identify the successes (Rose), challenges (Thorn), and opportunities for growth (Bud) from the previous meeting.

The SDP stakeholders’ table co-chairs then provided remarks, emphasizing accountability and the role of social media in their efforts. They discussed ways to enhance overall accountability and ensure transparent communication with stakeholders.

Significant time was dedicated to following up on the outcomes of the April 25th meeting. Key announcements included the release of the May issue of "Catch Da Flava," which features an SDP report. The committee also approved a motion to request the release of funds, with the next steps outlined. Several items, such as child minding and the SDP Stakeholders Table Invoice, were deferred for further discussion. The committee also deliberated on the input gathered from the sticker activity conducted in April, planning to address these insights in future meetings.

The final segment of the meeting focused on strategic planning for upcoming sessions. Michael Rosenberg (Regent Park resident) led the discussion, detailing the purpose and intended outcomes of each item. The committee planned for several key dates: May 9th for scope, direction, and vision; May 26th for working groups; and June 6th for process and structure. A preparatory meeting was scheduled for May 7th at 4:30 PM to finalize these plans.

The May 2nd meeting of the Planning Committee was a testament to the collaborative spirit and strategic foresight guiding the SDP Stakeholders Table. By addressing immediate needs and planning for future initiatives, the committee continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the direction and effectiveness of stakeholder engagement and action.
