October 25, 2022
WINNIPEG – On October 26th, Winnipeg heads to the polls to elect its next mayor. Eleven candidates will be on the ballot with a vision of how they will lead Winnipeg for the next five years. Eight candidates have accepted our invitation to convey their plans and promises.
Today, Civic Platform host Zuher Almusre sits down with mayoral candidate Chris Clacio to learn more about him and his platform.
Chris Clacio is once again running for public office. Clacio is running on three priorities: regional cooperation, system change, and to expand and rebrand the Office of Public Engagement.
Clacio has promised to turn Winnipeg's public engagement office into a civics education office and to make sure citizens have more input into city decisions.
Clacio says he would forge a new relationship between municipal and provincial governments.
Clacio has promised to ensure Winnipeg coordinates its planning more closely with the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region.
Clacio has pledged to hire a woman to be the next chief of the Winnipeg Police Service.
Clacio has also promised to sit on the Winnipeg Police Board and appoint a woman on city council to the board.
Clacio has promised to implement Winnipeg's newcomer welcome and inclusion policy, which outlines how the city can be a better place for newcomers to live and better meet their needs.
