Terrace Bay Council Meeting for July 2022
Terrace Bay council met for the first meeting of July 2022.
It started with the motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as per usual.
First order of business were the administration reports, followed by:
- An amendment to the bylaw regarding mileage reimbursement for meetings was discussed as the costs of travel have escalated.
- A submission was sent to the minister of health in regards to EMS services and transport of patients in the area.
- An update on the meeting held with EMS that had taken place earlier in regards to finalizing location and structure of amalgamated services. This resulted in a discussion about how best to maintain a proper ambulance service in the area.
- Seniors appreciation night is being planned, which will take place in the fall.
- Community development report focused on the beach pavilion opening and dedication, which is to take place during the 75th anniversary event in August of this year. The official plaques have been delayed and fake ones will be used to commemorate the event. These will be replaced once the actual ones are available.
- A presentation then took place for the “age well at home” initiative which strives to keep seniors in their own homes for as long as possible. A pilot project is being considered for the Terrace Bay Area. It will be funded under the New Horizons for Seniors program but needs the support of council to be implemented as it overlaps some existing services such as snow removal and lawn maintenance. Low income seniors wishing to remain in their homes face many financial challenges and these programs hope to lessen some of that burden.
- A motion to make the Franco Ontarian flag raising a yearly event was declared and proclaimed by the Mayor.
- There were no questions during question period.
- The open meeting then moved to an in camera session.
