Meet the Candidates - Susan McArthur (Conservative Party)
For the final push ahead of the 2021 Federal Election, TVC22 brings you one-on-one interview with your local candidates in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.
In this interview, host Thomas Stockting sits down with Conservative Party candidate Ms. Susan McArthur. Running in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell for the first time, the self-described "bilingual business woman" is pushing for change in government, with alternative plans for tackling child care, rural connectivity and more.
Controversy surrounded the nomination of Susan McArthur in the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell back when the election was announced. Pierre Lemieux, who held the seats for the conservative Party between 2006 and 2015 was denied the opportunity to run again, with his Party rejecting his request to have the bylaw (stopping a candidate from running again following two consecutive defeats) waived.
Despite this, and campaigning on "Canada's Recovery Plan", Ms. McArthur is polling well, with the riding set to be hotly contested.
Focusing on the country's economic re-launch Ms. McArthur is hoping to tackle the current inflation rate through a "responsible and disciplined" government in Ottawa. Speaking specifically for the local area the Conservative Candidate spoke of plans to help out small businesses.
