Get Vaccinated to Protect those Who Can't, says Dr. Paul
In special meeting held on Thursday September 2nd Dr. Paul Roumeliotis of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit provided some further details following the recent provincial "vaccine passport" announcement.
Ontario are in the 4th wave of the COVID-19 pandemic explained the EOHU's top doctor, but there was cause for optimism.
Comparing data to other provinces across the country's as well as other countries around the world Dr. Roumeliotis praised the continued efforts of residents to abide by current restrictions, stating that Ontario's slow opening approach is paying off.
With 67% of the province double vaccinated there is still a long way to go until we reach the magic 85%, which would grant us "herd immunity", a milestone necessary if a fall lockdown is to be avoided according to the EOHU's top doctor.
Dr. Roumeliotis has previously stated his support for a "vaccine passport" (which will now come into effect on September 22nd).
"Higher-risk" indoor spaces, where masks can't be worn at all times (such as restuarants, bars, nightclubs etc.) will all require proof of vaccination.
Until the provincial government's app to show prove that you have received both doses of your vaccine is released on October 22nd, residents will have to provide a paper or pdf copy of their vaccine receipt alongside a valid form of ID.
A negative test will not permit you to enter any of these establishments (with weddings and funerals the only exception up until October 22nd).
With the slowing down of vaccination rates across the province, Dr. Roumeliotis is hopes that the new mandate will help encourage those who are hesitant to get the jab.
"Yesterday, at our office in Windsor, we only had one person walk in," Dr. Paul said. "Today, already, we have had 14".
