W.U.T. Chief & Council 2020-2022 Virtual Swear-in Ceremony

On Friday, September 4th, 2020, the newly elected chief and council of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory gathered at the Nimkii Bineshii Kaning baseball park/powwow grounds to be honoured in a 'swearing-in ceremony'.

Under normal circumstances, the community gathers after every election, at the powwow grounds, to celebrate the newly elected council and shares in a feast and celebrations.  This year, however, due to COVID-19 constraints, the swearing-in ceremony was held 'virtually', online and over the FirstTelTV5 community channel.

Emceed by Dwayne Animikwan, and featuring the words of Elder Gerry Kaboni and Phyllis Williams, Ogimaa Duke Peltier was reelected for another 2 year term, along with a few others and a couple new faces on council.  Each of them took turns reading from the Wiikwemkoong GChi-Naaknigewin (constitution), thanked the community for their support, and community members were encouraged to share their congratulations with chief and council on video.

Nahaaw miigwetch!
