The Record Episode 13
On the afternoon of Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Canadian Iranian Foundation held its annual scholarship award ceremony at a community center in West Vancouver. The event was dedicated to celebrating the academic achievements of selected students within the community.
The ceremony began with a performance of the Canadian national anthem, followed by the song "O Iran," both delivered by Anita Shahriari, a young and talented artist residing in Vancouver. Her heartfelt renditions set a respectful and patriotic tone for the afternoon.
Nassreen Filsoof, president of the Canadian Iranian Foundation, then took the stage to welcome attendees. In her brief but meaningful speech, she outlined the foundation’s commitment to fostering education and community support. Filsoof explained that each year, the foundation awards scholarships to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need. Additionally, she highlighted the foundation's philanthropic efforts, noting that a portion of its surplus income is regularly donated to various organizations identified as being in need by the foundation.
The ceremony was further distinguished by the presence of notable community leaders. Suzie Chant, the representative for North Vancouver-Seymour in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, was in attendance and delivered a speech. Chant expressed her admiration for the students and underscored the importance of educational opportunities in building a strong, vibrant community.
Sherwin Shahriari, a dedicated community activist and member of organizations such as Battered Women's Support Services, the North Vancouver Food Bank, and the Canadian Red Cross, also addressed the audience. Shahriari spoke passionately about the role of education in empowering individuals and the broader impact that scholarships like these can have on society.
The event concluded with the presentation of scholarships to the selected students, marking a proud moment for both the recipients and their families. The ceremony not only celebrated academic achievement but also reinforced the values of community support and giving back, which are at the heart of the Canadian Iranian Foundation’s mission.
