Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong - Ep.2

Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong - Ep.2 with guest Brian Peltier

Aambe Giigididaa Wiikwemkoong - Let's Talk Wiikwemkoong is a talk show brought to you by Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territories' Kerry Assiniwe and FirstTelTV5 (Local Journalism Initiative).  It is a bi-weekly show, hosted by Kerry Assiniwe, where we will talk about different issues and stories concerning the Wiikwemkoong community.  This is a new venture of connecting with community members, whether living in Wiikwemkoong or elsewhere.  This  show is a ‘community voice’, and we will be looking for show ideas to highlight the ‘life/lives’ of Wiikwemkoong community members, events, culture, issues/concerns etc.

This second episode is with special guest Brian Peltier, Cultural Programmer for the Wikwemikong Heritage Organization.  Brian is also a councilor with W.U.T. and a fluent speaker of Anishnawbemowin.  We discuss Anishinawbemowin, how it is a verb-based language (as opposed to noun-based, as most 'western' languages are) and how it encodes Anishinawbe philosophy and value systems, the importance of language and culture, and how this beautiful and descriptive mode of communication was nearly lost because of Canada's colonial and genocidal policies.

Nahaaw miigwetch!
