Canada Day Celebrations Held in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam

On the 158th birthday of Canada celebrations were held throughout the lower mainland, Port Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam were no exception, Story by LJI reporter, Geoff Scott.

The Canada Day festivities in Coquitlam got started around noon and the event delivered on it's promise of a wide range of entertainment, multicultural performances, food, free and family-friendly fun activities and, of course, fireworks.

Performances on the main stage got started with an electric performance by MEI "Screaming Eagles" Marching Band continued throughout the day with performances by M’Girl ( Indigenous Collective ), Anna Katarina ( Indie pop ) , Norine Braun ( Eclectic pop ) , Frankie and the Juicebox ( Alternative rock experience ), Danielle Ryan ( Country music ), and Dr. Strangelove ( Iconic Canadian dance band ).

Zones at this year's event included ;

Adventure Games – Where there were active games for a variety of ages, skills and abilities, including mini golf, a climbing wall, and an inflatable slide. This zone also featured an e-bike and scooter demo area provided by Lime. The adventure zone was sponsored by Arc’teryx.

Eat Street – Which featured tasty multicultural food options, including vegan, vegetarian, Halal, kosher and gluten free options.

Eco Zone – Where attendees could connect with the City’s environmental team, Park Spark team and local groups through interactive, hands-on activities that highlight local ecosystems. The Eco Zone was sponsored by Meadowridge School.

Coquitlam Lane – Where guests could take pictures in the giggle booth and learn about the Coquitlam’s Tourism highlights, first response services and what the City is doing in Accessibility and Inclusion.

The Meadow – Which featured various cultural groups, art organizations, corporate partners from the community. Attendees could also relax in the Marcon Pavilion seating area, provided by the Presenting Partner, Marcon.

The Canada Day festivities in Port Coquitlam got started a little later in the day and also delivered on it's promise of incredible live entertainment, food trucks and vendors, a beverage garden, a local marketplace, family-friendly activities, and fireworks. Performers on the main stage in Port Coquitlam included ; The Matinee, Best Night Ever, Whiskey Blind, Aaron Prichett, and Trooper.
