Neepawa Dealership Fills a Truck For Christmas Cheer
What began as a simple idea quickly turned into a heartwarming community effort, says Ryan McLaughlin, owner of McLaughlin GM. Initially, the dealership staff aimed to collect a few toys to donate to the Neepawa Community Ministries Centre’s Christmas hamper program. However, their ambition grew when they decided to set a larger goal: filling the bed of one of their trucks with toys and food for the cause.
The plan gained momentum as customers and business partners expressed interest in joining the initiative. Recognizing the potential for greater impact, McLaughlin reached out to the Neepawa Chamber of Commerce to expand the project’s reach. Soon, collection hampers were placed in several local businesses, inviting the entire community to participate. The response was overwhelming. By the end of the campaign, not just one but two full truckloads of toys and non-perishable food items were delivered to the food bank and collection center, ensuring a brighter holiday season for those in need.
Reflecting on the success, McLaughlin shared his vision for the future: “We’re hoping to turn this into an annual event. While McLaughlin GM helped organize it, the real credit goes to the community. This was truly a collective effort, and we’re grateful for everyone’s generosity.”
The initiative has set a strong foundation for building a tradition of giving in Neepawa, fostering a sense of unity and holiday spirit. Local businesses, families, and individuals came together, demonstrating the power of collaboration in supporting vulnerable members of the community.
In addition to the Fill a Truck campaign, today’s show highlights more festive events happening around town. We take a tour of Jodie Byram’s holiday open house, filled with seasonal décor and heartwarming greetings. The Agassiz MLA also shares her holiday well-wishes and outlines her plans for the constituency over the winter, as she prepares for the legislature to reconvene in March.
Other community highlights include the HMK Grades 1-4 Art Exhibit, showcasing the creativity and holiday cheer of young artists. We’ll also explore some of the most dazzling local Christmas light displays and revisit the thrilling Titans vs. Waywayseecappo hockey game on December 13, with game highlights and community reactions.
