Navigating Leadership: Steve Kim’s Vision for Access Youth
Steve Kim, who has stepped into the role of Executive Director at Access Youth Outreach Services, while continuing as a Coquitlam City Councillor, is leading the charge to enhance support for at-risk youth in the Tri-Cities.

The Youth Bus program remains the backbone of Access Youth, serving as a mobile hub where teens can find connection, resources, and guidance. Beyond the bus, the organization collaborates with local partners to provide meals to vulnerable youth, addressing critical nutritional and social needs. Kim is also eager to spotlight the variety of other programs Access Youth offers, from mentorship opportunities to workshops aimed at life skills and empowerment.
Balancing his dual roles, Kim draws on his insights as a city councillor to bridge resources between municipal and community initiatives. He aims to expand the organization’s reach, deepen partnerships, and continue the impactful legacy of former Executive Director Jennifer Blatherwick.
“Community support is the foundation of everything we do,” Kim shares, encouraging local residents, businesses, and organizations to get involved through volunteering, donations, or advocacy. His leadership is grounded in collaboration, with a vision to ensure every young person has access to the tools they need to succeed.
To the youth and families benefiting from Access Youth’s programs, Kim sends a clear message: “We’re here for you, and we’ll keep working to make sure you’re supported every step of the way.” With a focus on innovation and inclusion, Kim’s tenure marks an exciting new chapter for Access Youth.
