Tri-Cities Rotary Clubs Doing Good Work at Home and Abroad

The Tri-Cities region is serviced by four dedicated Rotary Clubs: Port Moody, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, and Coquitlam Sunrise. These clubs, while operating independently, frequently collaborate on various initiatives, ensuring that their collective efforts have a broad and meaningful impact both within the Tri-Cities area and beyond. Each club brings its unique strengths to the table, offering a wide array of services and support to local and international communities.

The Port Moody Club is perhaps best known for its flagship event, RibFest, which has become a much-anticipated annual tradition. This event, which draws on the support of all the regional Rotary Clubs, raises substantial funds—thousands of dollars each year—that are funnelled back into the community. These funds support over two dozen local groups, including the Port Moody Police and Fire Departments, Access Youth, the Port Moody Ecological Society, and many more. Beyond RibFest, the Port Moody Club also hosts other significant fundraisers, such as their annual "Shreddathon," where residents can safely dispose of sensitive documents, and the "Search for the Perfect Pint," which combines community spirit with a love for craft beer.

The Port Coquitlam Club, meanwhile, plays a vital role in the city’s cultural fabric through its organization of the Po Co Rotary Mayday Parade. This event is a highlight of the year, bringing together residents in celebration and community pride. Additionally, the club runs a monthly Repair Café, a wonderful initiative where volunteers with technical skills breathe new life into worn-out appliances, electronics, and a wide variety of household items. This program not only reduces waste but also fosters a sense of community as neighbours come together to help one another.

The Coquitlam Clubs, both Coquitlam and Coquitlam Sunrise, are deeply involved in the beautification and maintenance of public spaces, particularly in Town Centre Park. Their contributions to the gardens and various other community projects help ensure that Coquitlam remains a vibrant and welcoming place to live. These clubs are also involved in numerous other initiatives, both seen and unseen, that enhance the quality of life for residents across the region.

In addition to their local efforts, all four Rotary Clubs are actively engaged in international projects aimed at improving lives around the globe. Whether it’s providing clean water to communities in need, supporting education initiatives, or aiding in disaster relief, these clubs are committed to making a positive difference wherever they can.

If you find yourself with time to give back, whether locally or globally, there is undoubtedly a project or cause within these Rotary Clubs that will align with your interests and schedule. For more information on how you can get involved, visit tricitiesrotary.org.
