تربية الأبناء تشكل مشكلة كبيرة لدى الأباء العرب في وينيبيغ، فهي تختلف بشكل كبير عن التربية عن باقي المدن الأخرى. فما قد يكون مسموحاً في وطنهم قد لايكون مسموحاً في وينيبيغ بل ربما قد يعاقبه القانون الكندي الذي يحمي الأطفال ويمنحهم الحرية في الإختيار. مما يشكل صعوبة على الأباء في إيجاد الطرق الصحيحة للتربية غير تلك التي تربوا عليها في السابق

المعاني قال: الأطفال في كندا لهم حرية أكبر من الأطفال في المنطقة العربية ، فالأباء هناك يتحكمون بشكل أكبر في أبنائهم وفي اختياراتهم. فعلى سبيل المثال  يجبر الأبناء في بعض الأحيان للبس معين، أو الذهاب لمدرسة معينة، أختيار تخصص دراسي معين. وهذا لاينطبق على الأبناء في وينيبيغ بل ربما يتعرض الأباء لمسائلة قانونية إذا قاموا بذلك فالأبناء يحددون إختياراتهم ومستقبلهم بحرية مطلقة ونحن كأباء نقدم النصيحة فقط 

المعاني أضاف: أفضل الوسائل في التربية هي الحوار مع أبنائك وإعطائهم أكثر من إختيار كي لايشعروا بأنك تجبرهم على قرار معين الطفل له شخصية ويحب أن يكون هو من يقوم بإختياراته بحرية دون اي تدخل من أحد. أيضاً كن صديقاً لهم ولا تستخدم الصوت العالي أو العنف فهذه التصرفات تبعدهم عنك، إضافة الى ذلك يعاقب عليها القانون الكندي ويعتبرها عنفا على الأطفال

المعاني شرح: نحن كعرب يجب أن نتعاون مع المدرسة والمنظمات الكندية العربية التي لها خبرة واسعة في تربية الأبناء بشكل صحيح لكي نستفيد من خبرتهم ويكونوا لنا مرجع في الأساليب الصحيحة في التربية لكي نحافظ على عائلاتنا وأطفالنا 

تربية الأبناء تعتبرعمل بدوام كامل. وليست بالمهمة السهلة على الأباء ،تحتاج إلى صبر وتعلم بشكل يومي. لذلك كن مرحاً، مستمعاً، مشجعاً، ناصِحاً، واثقاً بقراراته  لكي تكسب ثقهم وإحترامهم 

Raising children in Winnipeg is challenging for Arab parents since it is so different from the countries that many come from. What is legal in their home country may not be legal in Winnipeg, and may even be punished under Canadian law, that is designed to protect children and give them the opportunity to make their own decisions at an appropriate age. This makes it difficult for parents to find the right methods of education when they were brought up in a different way.

Journalist Zuher Almusre of U Multicultural Channel chatted with Abdul Almanni, a member of the Arab Community in Winnipeg, to learn more about his personal experience raising children and what advice he would give to Arab parents in Winnipeg on how to raise their children appropriately. 

According to Almanni, children in Canada have more freedom than children in the Arab region where their parents have greater influence over their children and their choices. For example, in their home countries, children may be forced to dress in a certain manner, attend a specific school, or pursue a specific academic concentration. This does not necessarily apply to Winnipeg children, and parents may face legal consequences in some situations. Children in Canada make their own decisions about their future, and we as parents can only offer counsel, according to Almanni.

Almanni went on to say that the best way to educate your children is to talk to them and give them multiple options that fit yours and their desires. The child has a personality and enjoys being the one who makes his own decisions without interference from others. Befriend them and avoid using a loud voice or aggression, as these behaviours will keep them away from you, he says. Physical and other forms of aggression are criminal under Canadian law and are considered child abuse. 

Almanni explained that to benefit from the Canadian experience and to follow the proper methods of education, we as Arabs must collaborate with Canadian-Arab schools and organizations that have extensive experience in raising children properly. 

Raising children is a full-time occupation. It is not an easy chore for parents; it demands patience and regular learning. To gain their confidence and respect, have fun, listen, encourage, advise, and trust their decisions, he says.
