The Rural Perspective: Cache Creek Council

The Cache Creek Village Council met on Tuesday, January 3 and covered a variety of important topics.

After adopting past meeting minutes, the council moved into committee reports, including Economic Development from Councillor Dubois and Councillor Debert and Budget & Administrative Services from Mayor Ranta and Councillor Peters.

The council then discussed several bylaw and policy reviews, including Draft Policy C-9: Staff Pay for Fire Department Duties, Policy C-10: Technology and Cybersecurity Policy, and Policy D-4: Snow and Ice Control Policy. The council discussed each policy and recommended bringing them to the table for further discussion.

Under Staff reports, the council reviewed a staff report for the Canada Summer Jobs Program and recommended that staff apply for two positions at a wage rate of $17.61 per hour. They also received and filed a report from CFO Martini on payments issued to vendors and a report from CAO Couture on the main digital communication methods in use by the Village.

The council then reviewed several information correspondences, including letters from TECK Highland Valley Copper, Gold Trail School District, and UBCM regarding the Canada Community Building Fund. The council recommended receiving and filing these letters. They also discussed an email from Chloe Gravelle and recommended further discussion on the matter.

Finally, the council moved to a closed session before closing the meeting. Overall, the meeting covered several important topics related to economic development, policies, and staff reports. The council demonstrated its commitment to supporting the community and ensuring that residents are informed and engaged.
