The Rural Perspective: Cache Creek Village Council Meeting

The Village of Cache Creek Council held a meeting on Monday, January 16, where they discussed various topics of importance. The meeting began with the adoption of minutes, followed by a review of committee notes, including Economic Development from Councillor Dubois and Councillor Debert and Budget & Administrative Services from Mayor Ranta and Councillor Peters.

The council then discussed changing the September 18 Regular Council meeting to accommodate UBCM dates, and recommended changing it to September 25 at 6:00 PM. They then moved on to bylaw and policy review, including discussions on removing Policy E-6: Use of Aquatic Centre Diving Boards.

In the Public Works segment, the council reviewed a report from Western Water Associates LTD in connection to the Waste Water Treatment Plant outfall study, and recommended that Council receive and file the fieldwork update from Western Water Associates LTD. They also discussed connected services and lack of payment for utilities, and referred the subject to a committee for further investigation.

Under Healthcare and Protective Services, the council discussed inviting the RCMP to present and discuss current issues within the community. In Parks and Recreation, CAO Couture provided an oral update on the current status of the Shrine Property.

The staff gave their reports, including CFO Martini's report on the status of the Critical Infrastructure Project. The council recommended either approving an expenditure of up to $75,000 to remedy the leak in Well 7 to be paid from Gas Tax Funds or postponing repairs until failure of the component. CAO Couture also provided a report on a grant application, and the council recommended supporting the application to the UBCM Community Emergency Preparedness Fund and providing administrative support for the grant activities.

The council also reviewed several correspondences, including a BCSPCA Newsletter, Interior Health's Decriminalization of Illegal Substances, Agricultural Land Commission's Congratulations Email, and TNRD's Regional Growth Strategy. They received and filed the items in Information Correspondence.

Finally, the council moved to a closed session before closing the meeting. Overall, the meeting covered several important topics related to economic development, public works, healthcare, and protective services. The council demonstrated its commitment to supporting the community and ensuring that residents are informed and engaged.

The project is funded by the Department of Canadian Heritage and administered by the Canadian Association of Community Television Users and Stations (CACTUS).
