The Village of Ashcroft Council held a meeting on February 13, 2023, where several important topics were discussed. Mayor Barbara Roden and four councillors were present, with Jonah Anstett attending virtually via Zoom. Also attending virtually were CAO Daniela Dyck and CFO Yogi Bhalla, as well as several other officials.

The meeting began with a report from the CAO on the Code of Conduct Policy. This report was for information only. Next, the council discussed several staff reports, including the confirmation of attendance at the 2023 SILGA Convention. The council approved attending the convention.

The CFO also presented a report on the Ashcroft Curling Rink, requesting a letter of support and financial administrative support for the grant. The council agreed to provide both.

Additionally, the CFO presented a resolution to support proposed fire protection activities, and the council agreed to provide overall grant management.

The council then reviewed several correspondences, including a request for a gift basket for the SILGA Convention, a proclamation request for Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness, and a Heritage Week Proclamation. The council also considered inviting the Curator to open the Museum for a day and inviting students for a field trip.

Other correspondences included a request for the council’s help to protect and preserve the Ashcroft Library Art Collection, a request from the Ashcroft 4-H Club to waive community hall rental fees for dates in February and November of 2023, and an invitation to Councillor Lambert to attend the Thompson View Manor Society Board Meeting.

Finally, the council reviewed several submissions for information, including a new online system that streamlines TNRD Building Department requests and there were greetings from Bifuka, Japan.

The meeting ended with council reports from individual councilors. Overall, the meeting was productive and covered several important topics, including policies, staff reports, and correspondences. The council demonstrated its commitment to supporting the community and ensuring that residents are informed and engaged.
