After an article was published quoting an avid skatepark youth, Elijah Olszynko, La Peche Media followed up to get to the root of one of the problems at the skatepark in Wakefield.  Elijah informed us that skatepark etiquette is not being followed or learned.  There has been a lot of discussion in social media and published articles regarding the unwanted behaviors around the skatepark.  Together with Elijah Olszynko, Morley Hodgison and Anika Whitney we created a video to help educate the basic skatepark etiquette. 

Skateboarding has a long history of 60 years, that started from the surf culture to skating competitions to currently making its debut appearance at the summer Olympics in 2021 in Tokyo Japan. 

Skatepark etiquette is extremely important for all park users and parents to know.  You will not see these rules posted on a sign however these rules are designed to keep the respect amongst the users and especially safety for the skatepark users.  Despite skateparks looking chaotic, it is etiquette that keeps the chaos in control.

Skateparks are inclusive spaces for multiple generations to use and share.  There are so many benefits of having an accessible skatepark, including the physical and mental health benefits.

The residents of La Peche are fortunate to have an inclusive place for their youth to enjoy socially and as physical outlet.  These teens are hoping that an etiquette video will help some of the concerns.  Stay tuned, as more changes and programs are following to help with the unwanted behaviors around the skatepark at Centre Wakefield La Peche.
