Richmond Warden Amanda Mombourquette recently spoke with Civic Journalist Jake Boudrot to explain why she’s seeking re-election in District 4, which encompasses the communities of River Bourgeois, River Tillard, St. Peter’s, and Sampsonville. As someone deeply committed to community service, Mombourquette said her desire to remain involved at the municipal level comes from a lifelong passion for helping others and making a meaningful difference in the lives of her fellow residents.

“It’s always been in my background working in the community and working for the community,” she explained. “The idea, for me, is that if we can make our communities prosper, we’ll have a better quality of life. That’s really the driving force behind everything I do. It’s about ensuring that our local areas can thrive, and that’s why I’m seeking re-election.”

Mombourquette highlighted her involvement in several community-based initiatives over the years, noting that she’s always found joy and fulfillment in grassroots projects. She said she chaired the Village on the Canal Association, volunteered with Pirate Days in St. Peter’s, and played a key role in organizing Christmas events like the annual Festival of Trees, which has become a beloved tradition in St. Peter’s.

“I really find that being part of those types of programs and part of those types of events is incredibly fulfilling and helps keep me connected to what’s important to people,” she added. “It’s not just about attending meetings or making decisions at the council table; it’s about staying involved with the day-to-day activities that bring our communities together. That’s where I get a real sense of what people care about and what they want to see in the future.”

First elected during the 2020 municipal election, Mombourquette feels that serving as a councillor was a natural progression in her career, given her extensive experience in economic development and community advocacy. She emphasized that her background has provided her with valuable insight into how municipal policies directly affect the well-being of local citizens.

“I worked in economic development for a very long time, often in collaboration with municipal councils, through organizations like the Strait-Highland Regional Development Agency,” she noted. “I’ve seen firsthand how strategic planning and policy development can make a real difference. Also, having run the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce for five years, that was a major learning experience. It really demonstrated to me just how much impact policy decisions can have on the everyday lives of people and the future of our communities.”

As she seeks another term, Mombourquette said she remains focused on fostering economic growth, improving local infrastructure, and ensuring that residents continue to have access to essential services. For her, the ultimate goal is to build a strong and sustainable future for Richmond County that benefits everyone.
