The Making of a Filipino Writer in a Manitoba-Made Sitcom

Manitoba actor and filmmaker Alec Carlos's film, 'In a Moment's Notice', was victorious, winning the Best Canadian Short Film award at the 2021 UWPG Film Festival.

Alec Carlos is an actor, filmmaker, writer, and musician based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Though he never envisioned growing up in Manitoba, following his family's emigration he embraced his new home and is currently in his final year at the University of Manitoba for Film Studies. He has been writing, filmmaking and editing since childhood and entered the industry via acting in productions such as Amazon Prime's Tales from the Loop, Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott's Tales from the Hood 3, as well as the upcoming prequel to 2009's Orphan, Orphan: First Kill.

For the past number of years, Film Training Manitoba (FTM) has been partnering with the UWPG Film Festival on several training activities and continues to support this category.

Alec's main goal in life to earn a living doing the things that he loved as a child, whether that's in the realm of wrestling, music or film production and in that vein, Alec's upcoming project is a feature film called Tallies, which is set to be in principal photography later this year. He is set to star and direct the film as well as writing it. Recruiting Winnipeg cinematographer Vincent Tang to shoot the film, Tallies is about Resistance vs Acceptance -- how we are products of our environments and how we perceive that environment reflected in our behaviour. Don't fight your surroundings.

Tallies is a very personal story as it is set in rural Manitoba, highlighting a perspective of growing up in the prairies and the love/hate relationship we have with it.
