HON COVID 19 Update March 17 2020

The March 17th 2020 Update is our first update of this kind, that mainly involves the COVID19 situation. In this video Gareth Smart and Jessica Clement cover local news, closures, cancelations, postponements and press releases from the villages and businesses in Ashcroft, Cache Creek, the Thompson Okanagan, the Province and the Country.

Rotary Citizen of the year aware has been postponed.

The Starhouse Chinese food restaurant has closed its buffet.

Unitea has cancelled all upcoming public performances.

The Ashcroft HUB has closed its doors to the public, all services in the gym, classes for kids etc have been suspended.

Cache Creek fitness center is closed til further notice.

Cache Creek has closed all future events that has more than 50 attendees.

Ashcroft states that all essential services will remain active such as the: water treatment plant, sewer treatment plant, garbage removal, office operations remain at status quo but residents are encouraged not to come in, Council meetings are still going on as scheduled, no more scheduled events at the Ashcroft Community Hall, however weekly users may still use this building, parks are open but bathrooms will be closed.

The HUB Online Network has cancelled all in studio interviews, and student volunteer program.

Message from MLA Jackie Tegart -- Jackie Tegart has closed their Ashcroft office to the public, but they will still be working. Jackie will also not be participating in public events until this health crisis is over. Jackie shares a message that reflects on the toll that this pandemic has had in China and Italy. We have a responsibility to keep the most vulnerable safe. Without getting to close call your neighbors and make sure that they are OK. The provincial health office advises that stop doing this like hand shake and other forms of personal contact. Please home and rest if you are sick, and seek treatment if necessary. If you think that you have come into contact with COVID-19 call 1-800 COVID19.

BC COVID-19 response update: 3 people who have tested positive have did, total people who have tested positive is 103, with 30 new cases all over the province. Several cases are related to a recent dental conference. Gareth went around town and asked for weekly updates from the local businesses: The pharmacy hours are normal, same with Home Hardware. Dentists across BC will no longer be performing elective or non-essential procedures. Hospitals in BC will be cancelling elective and non-essential surgeries.

The Ashcroft and Cache Creek libraries will be closed until further notice.

WestJet is cancelling most flights.

Casinos will be closed. Movie theaters will be closing their doors until further notice.
