All's Not Well: An Interview with MP Lisa Marie Barron About Health Care on Central Vancouver Island

Life on Gabriola TV begins a series of programs on the health care situation in the central Vancouver Island area, including Gabriola Island, by interviewing Nanaimo-Ladysmith Member of Parliament Lisa Marie Barron.

According to a Jan. 2024 Leger poll, “long waits," "stressed," and "failing" are the first three words that come to mind when Canadians consider our current health care system. In July 2023, BC premier David Eby noted that 895,000 people in the province are still without a family doctor, and Barron says she has seen evidence of the stress locally. “One theme amongst constituents all across the riding is people who are reaching out because they’re not gaining the access to the health care situation that they need,” she tells Life on Gabriola TV’s Frank Moher in the interview.

Barron blames years of under-funding by consecutive federal governments for the problem, and says that both patients and health care workers deserve better.
