Cada octubre, el corazón de Winnipeg late al ritmo de la cultura latinoamericana. El Mes de la Herencia Latinoamericana no es solo una celebración cultural, es un momento cívico, social y emocional para reconocer la presencia y aportes de miles de latinoamericanos en Manitoba. 

Cruz Woloski, miembro del comité organizador, lo explica con claridad: “Es importante preservar nuestra cultura, enseñar a las nuevas generaciones y compartir quiénes somos con los demás.” 

¿Por qué es importante para Winnipeg? 

La comunidad hispanohablante en la ciudad está creciendo rápidamente, con miles de personas provenientes de México, Colombia, El Salvador, Perú, Cuba, Chile, y más. Este evento promueve el entendimiento mutuo, crea redes y fortalece el tejido social de nuestra ciudad. 

El evento se celebrará el 19 de octubre en el 340 Provencher Blvd, de 1 a 5 de la tarde, con entrada gratuita. Será una tarde familiar con música, poesía, danza y gastronomía. 

Cruz destaca: “No es solo un evento festivo, es un espacio donde los inmigrantes pueden sentirse vistos, expresar su identidad y encontrar pertenencia en un nuevo país.” 

El Valor Social y Comunitario 

El Mes de la Herencia Latinoamericana: 

• Fortalece vínculos comunitarios, reuniendo a más de 10 asociaciones culturales (mexicanos, ecuatorianos, argentinos, peruanos, cubanos, etc.). 
• Empodera a la juventud al involucrarlos como artistas y líderes del futuro. 
• Fomenta el voluntariado y la participación cívica, esenciales para que el evento sea posible. 
• Invita al diálogo intercultural, incluyendo a otras comunidades a conocer, compartir y celebrar.  

También se realizará una presentación especial en el edificio legislativo de Manitoba, como símbolo de inclusión y representación. 

En una ciudad donde el invierno es fuerte, octubre se convierte en un mes de calidez gracias a la alegría, los colores y la fuerza de la cultura latina. No es solo un mes de herencia, es un llamado a la unidad, la educación y el orgullo comunitario. 

Every October, Winnipeg’s downtown bursts to life with the rhythms, colours, and stories of Latin America. Latin American Heritage Month is more than a celebration—it’s a powerful reminder of the growing presence and contributions of Latin American communities in Manitoba.

For Cruz Woloski, a member of the organizing committee, the month carries deep meaning. “It’s a way to preserve our culture, to teach younger generations where we come from, and to share it with the wider public,” she said.

Winnipeg’s population is increasingly diverse, with thousands of Spanish-speaking immigrants from Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Peru, Cuba, Chile, and beyond. Events like this build bridges across cultures while highlighting the unique identities within Winnipeg’s multicultural society.

This year’s celebration takes place on October 19 from 1–5 p.m. at 340 Provencher Blvd. The free event will feature music, poetry, dance, and cuisine from across Latin America, offering families of all backgrounds a chance to gather, connect, and celebrate together.

“It’s not just a party. It’s a place where newcomers can feel seen,” Cruz explained. “It’s about expressing identity and creating a sense of belonging in a new country.”

The event strengthens community bonds by bringing together more than 10 cultural associations—Mexican, Ecuadorian, Argentine, Peruvian, Cuban, and others. It empowers youth, with children performing dances and poetry in Spanish, and it encourages civic participation through the efforts of volunteers, vendors, and artists. Just as importantly, it fosters intercultural dialogue, inviting other communities in Winnipeg to learn, connect, and celebrate alongside Latin Americans.

Organizers also plan a special presentation at the Manitoba Legislative Building, a symbolic gesture of representation and inclusion.

In a province known for its long winters, October becomes a month of warmth. Through the joy, colour, and resilience of Latin American culture, Latin American Heritage Month grows into more than an event—it becomes a movement of visibility, education, and pride.
