Treaty 10 News - June 24, 2022 - Candyce Paul
At times of emergency it could be said that true leaders rise. It takes a leader to rise up when time and conditions are not on your side. The Emergency Management Team put in countless hours responding to times of crisis.
In recent history, the pandemic was a good example of this response, however we can go back to 2015 and the forest fire situation in Northern Saskatchewan. Thousands of people were displaced from their home with little time to prepare. The logistics and management involved you can imagine were overwhelming. So it takes an organization like the Emergency Management Team to step up. People want to feel like they're taken care of in times of crisis. Candyce Paul contributed to this effort, showing that leadership that was needed.
The pandemic as we all know was declared in 2020. This was another opportunity to respond. Residents in our area needed to be kept up to date, as things were changing at such a rapid pace. The people in northern Saskatchewan had to deal with lockdowns, being denied services by southern businesses and at one point were denied the freedom to travel outside of the area. The people would have to ask and justify why they were leaving, there was this feeling of not being treated equal.
The silver lining in this story was that true leaders were able to rise. It was the efforts of the Emergency Management Team and the local EOC that made the difference. Looking back on their efforts, we can say that we were informed and kept up-to-date. This was the result of people who cared and contributed on a daily basis, true leaders.
