Outbreaks, Floods and the CESB

Episode begins with a moment of silence and acknowledgement for the victims and families of the mass shooting in Nova Scotia.

The moment of silence was followed by another update of current numbers in COVID-19 cases including active cases and for the deceased. Additional COVID-19 numbers were provided for the local and nearby regions of British Columbia, as well as additional new deaths identified in long term care facilities.  A quote from Dr. Bonnie Henry was issued: “The ninety people in British Columbia that have died from this have all been in long term care homes.”

An update was also provided on the day prior’s news of a COVID-19 outbreak at a poultry plant in Vancouver. The reason for outbreak was many employees were arriving for work ill. Excerpts of a quote from Dr. Bonnie Henry noted that even for slight sniffling, belief of allergies, and other common symptoms associated to sickness, were not to go to work and that they would not be penalized. In an effort to keep the provinces cases down, now matter how minor symptoms or feeling of illness, her request was that people not to return to work and potentially put people at risk of exposure.

And new information from Prime Minister Trudeau was announced, that another financial relief program had been initiated for students having graduated or out of school that would not return until September. The Canada Emergency Student Benefit would provide students with a $1250.00 a month for the period of March to August through the Canada Revenue Agency. Additional funding is available for those who were watching someone with or if you possessed disabilities.

After video footage from Jessica on behalf of the HUB for fundraising, some small updates were provided for the Cache Creek flood warnings, and their state of local emergency. Reiteration of a previous remote from April 20th as reminder of evacuations in effect, additional information as to the location of ESS facilities for evacuees, access to resources like sandbags for use in further prevention of damage and danger to the community of Cache Creek. Less updates as seen in previous updates as waters began to lower and ease off, but the community was still kept in existing measures of emergency and evacuation from previous day.

Before closing statements, a small feature focus on local artist Jo Petty, providing ideas for an at home painting project with an at-home video demonstration.
