Newcomers to Winnipeg with Advanced Degrees Struggle to Find Jobs in Their Fields

الحكومة الكندية تعلن سنويا عن زيادة في أعداد المهاجرين إليها، الاف المهاجرين يأتون بدرجاتهم العلمية وخبرتهم الطويلة في تخصصات مختلفة لأنها شرط أساسي في قبول طلباتهم للهجرة وهنا تكمن المشكلة. فعند وصولهم يجدون صعوبة بالغة في الحصول على وظائف في تخصصاتهم مما يؤدي إلى زيادة في تحدياتهم المادية والنفسية وصعوبة في الاستقرار والاندماج 

في هذه الحلقة من المنصة المدنية استضاف الصحفي زهير المصري الأستاذ عمرو عبد الوهاب وهو كاتب وصحفي مصري قدم إلى وينيبيغ حديثاً. عبد الوهاب شرح أسباب هجرته إلى وينيبيغ وتحدث عن الخطوات التي يقوم بها لإيجاد عمل في تخصصه الإعلامي 

عبد الوهاب عبر بقوله: لقد كانت لدي توقعات مختلفة تماماً عن العمل في وينيبيغ. انا وعائلتي استوفينا جميع الشروط المطلوبة للهجرة إلى وينيبيغ. كان واضحاً من خلال طلب الهجرة أن كندا تبحث عن أعلى المؤهلات التعليمية. لذلك شعرت بأنني عندما أصل سأجد جهات حكومية تشرح لي فرص العمل وكيف يمكن أن أستقر سريعاً في مدينتي الجديدة. لكن مع الاسف انصدمت من الواقع ولم أجد شيئا مفيداً 

عبد الوهاب أضاف أيضاً: أفضل الطرق التي اقوم بها حالياً هي البحث عن إعلاميين عرب للتحدث معهم وافهم الرحلة التي قاموا بها حتى اقوم بها انا أيضاً. الإعلاميين العرب قليلون جداً لذلك شبكة التواصل الخاصة بي في وينيبيغ محدودة جداً. بدأت بالتطوع مع قناة يوملتيكلتشرل لكي افهم بيئة العمل الكندية. من خلال التطوع تأكدت بأنه يجب أن أتقن اللغة الإنجليزية بشكل يمكنني من التواصل مع زملائي في العمل 

قرار الهجرة يجب أن يكون مدروساً بعناية. ويجب على الحكومة الكندية أن تكون أكثر وضوحاً مع المهاجرين حتى لا يخيب أملهم عند الوصول إلى مقاطعاتها. نحن بحاجة إلى المهاجرين، ولكننا أيضاً بحاجة إلى خبراتهم واستغلال هذه الطاقات البشرية لتضيف إلى المنظومة الكندية خبرات جديدة نستفيد منها ونجعلها أكثر استقراراً واندماجاً 

Thousands of immigrants come with their educational qualifications and extensive expertise in various fields, a fundamental requirement for their immigration applications. However, this challenges them as they often need help finding jobs in their respective fields upon arrival. This increases financial and psychological challenges, making settling and integration more challenging. 

In this episode of the Civic Platform, journalist Zuhair Almusre hosted Amr Abdelwahab, an Egyptian writer and journalist who recently moved to Winnipeg. Abdelwahab explained the reasons for his migration to Winnipeg and discussed the steps he is taking to find work in his field of journalism. 

Abdelwahab expressed, "I had completely different expectations regarding working in Winnipeg. My family and I met all the requirements for immigration to Winnipeg. It was clear from the immigration application that Canada was seeking the highest educational qualifications. So, when I arrived, there would be government agencies that would explain job opportunities and how I could quickly settle in my new city. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the reality and didn't find anything useful. 

Abdelwahab also added that one of the best approaches he is currently taking is to seek out Arab journalists to speak with and understand their journey so that I can do the same. Arab journalists are very few, so my networking in Winnipeg is very limited. I began volunteering with U Multicultural Channel to understand the Canadian work environment. Through volunteering, I realized that I need to master English to a level that enables me to communicate with my colleagues at work. 

The decision to immigrate should be carefully considered, "The Canadian government should be more transparent with immigrants so as not to disappoint them upon arrival in its provinces. We need immigrants, but we also need their expertise. We should harness this human potential to enhance the Canadian system with new experiences that can be beneficial and promote greater stability and integration."
