Divorce is a Growing Issue for the Stability of Winnipeg's Arab Families

بحسب مركز الإحصاء الكندي فان 40 بالمئة من الزيجات في كندا تنتهي بالطلاق، 34 بالمئة منها ناتجة عن العنف المنزلي أو الإساءة اللفظية او الإساءة الجسدية، بينما نسبة الطلاق بسبب الخيانة الزوجية شكلت 27 بالمئة من حالات الطلاق في كندا. في مدينة وينيبيغ الخوف من الطلاق والتفكك الاسري أصبح مصدر قلق للجالية العربية وللقادمين الجدد مما جعل الكثير من الازواج يفكرون بمغادرة كندا فور حصولهم على الجنسية حتى ينجوا من هذا التحدي الصعب

سيتي عبد الله تحدثت مع الأستاذ عبد السلام كليولة مستشار في العلاقات الأسرية وقال: الطلاق يشكل تهديداً لاستقرار الأسر العربية في وينيبيغ. وذلك لعدة أسباب نذكر منها: العائلات التي تفكر في القدوم إلى وينيبيغ يجب عليهم أولاً أن يعرفوا الثقافة الكندية وقوانينها الخاصة بالأسرة. القانون الكندي يساوي الرجل بالمرأة بالحقوق والواجبات. بعض الاحيان قد تفسر هذه الحقوق بشكل خاطئ ومن أشخاص غير متخصصين وهنا تصدر بعض التصرفات التي تتسبب في الطلاق 

كليولة أضاف قائلاً: أغلب أسباب الطلاق تظهر في الفترة الأولى من وصول العائلات الى وينيبيغ. لأنهم يتعرضون إلى الصدمة الثقافية، صعوبة اللغة، وعدم القدرة على الحصول على عمل. وبالتالي إذا لم تكن العائلة متماسكة وتتحاور بشكل جيد ستظهر الخلافات بين الأبوين وربما يحدث الطلاق 

كليولة وضح أيضاً: يمكن للأبوين الاستعانة بمستشار أسري وطلب المساعدة. المشاكل الزوجية هي مرض يحتاج إلى علاج تماماً كأي مرض عضوي يحتاج إلى طبيب متخصص. المستشار الأسري سيقوم بشرح أسباب المشكلة واقتراح الحلول المناسبة لها. وبالتالي سنحافظ على تماسك الأسرة واستقرار الأبناء 

خلال هذه الحلقة كليولة قدم الكثير من النصائح والارشادات للآباء والامهات للمحافظة على أسرهم من خلال التحلي بالصبر، الابتعاد عن العنف اللفظي والجسدي، والوصول الى لغة حوار راقية تجعل حياتهم أفضل وأجمل

According to the Canadian Statistics Center 40 percent of marriages in Canada end in divorce, thirty-four percent of these are a result of domestic violence, including verbal or physical abuse. The  divorce rate due to infidelity constitutes 27 percent of divorce cases in Canada.  

In the city of Winnipeg, the fear of divorce and family disintegration has become a source of concern for the Arab community and newcomers. This has led many couples to consider leaving Canada as soon as they obtain citizenship so that they are less likely to have to deal with this challenging situation. 

Siti Abdullah spoke with Abdeslam Glioula, a family consultant, who stated that divorce poses a  threat to the stability of Arab families in Winnipeg. There are several reasons for this, including  the fact families considering coming to Winnipeg must first familiarize themselves with Canadian culture and its family laws. For example, Canadian law grants equal rights and duties to men and women. However, these rights may sometimes be misinterpreted by non-specialized individuals, leading to behaviours that contribute to divorce. 

Glioula added that most of the reasons for divorce become apparent in the initial period after families arrive in Winnipeg. This is a result of experiencing culture shock, encountering language difficulties, and struggling to find employment. If the family lacks cohesion and effective communication, differences can arise between parents, potentially leading to divorce.  

Glioula also explained that parents can seek the help of a family counselor and ask for assistance. Marital problems are akin to diseases and require specialized treatment. A family counselor can identify the causes of the problem and suggest appropriate solutions, thereby preserving family cohesion and stability in the childrens lives.  

During this episode, Glioula provided a lot of advice and guidance to fathers and mothers on how to preserve their families. This includes being patient, avoiding verbal and physical violence, and employing sophisticated dialogue techniques to enhance their lives.
